Members of the National Executive Council Forum of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday met with the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, behind closed doors.
The meeting which was held at the APC national secretariat, Abuja, was at the instance of Odigie-Oyegun.
It was learnt that the meeting was designed to provide an avenue for him to explain the challenges facing the party and appeal to the aggrieved members to sheathe their swords.
The meeting which started at about 11:00am lasted till about 3:00pm when the national chairman left the venue.
Members of the forum went into another round of meetings soon after the party chairman stepped out.
Although neither the chairman nor the members of the forum spoke to reporters after the meeting, it was gathered that Odigie-Oyegun explained the challenges facing the party, especially the dire financial situation it had been contending with.
A source privy to the meeting, who pleaded anonymity, said, “He basically tried to absolve himself of blame. He informed us of the dire financial situation of the party and the communication gap that exists between the party and the various arms of government.
“The chairman pleaded for our understanding especially on the issue of appointments, among other things.”
When contacted, the National Ex-Officio/ South-West Coordinator of the forum, Omolaoyo Akintola, who also attended the meeting, said, “The (APC) national chairman reacted to some fundamental issues raised in our letter.”
