Stampede kills two in S’African stadium but match goes on

Two people have been killed in a stampede that took place on Saturday afternoon at a stadium in South Africa.

The FNB stadium, said to have a capacity of 90,000, was hosting the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs when the incident occurred.

According to state television, SABC, several people were left injured in the incident.

Michael Sun, councillor and MMC for public safety in the city of Johannesburg, also took to Twitter to confirm the news, assuring the public that it was being handled and the crowd was being led to safety.

Sun noted that the match would still continue despite the incident.
