Group worries over youth unemployment

The Co-Chief Executive Officer, Mall for Africa, Tope Folayan, has expressed worry about the high rate of youth unemployment in the country, “despite numerous and readily available resources within the telecommunications and Information Technology ecosystems.”

He spoke with some Nigerian youths as a forum in Lagos, adding that for young retail entrepreneurs to succeed, they must build stock, client base and grow their income.

Folayan also said that he was bothered about the high shipping rates business owners had to deal with in trying to purchase merchandise.

He said, “Taking these difficulties into consideration, Mall for Africa has implemented shipping discounts from select stores on its platform. This commenced on August 1, 2017 and will run to August 31, 2017.

“Every item from those participating stores will ship at a dollar a piece; and at an average of N370 per item from the United States or the United Kingdom.

“The new initiative is also open to prospective customers and the first procedure is to download the app from the users’ preferred app store or the site’s chrome extension on to the user’s browser.”

He also said, “For Mall for Africa partner stores not currently participating in the 1$ per item shipping promotion, there are a number of other fast-moving categories with top-line discounts that Nigerian sellers should be happy take advantage of.”
